The HP 33s was my first real calculator. "Real" in the sense that it supports RPN. I first learnt about RPN when I was doing work experience for a local engineering company. Between photocopying and reading the Ultrafloor Technical Manual, I had a chance to play with an HP 12C. I had absolutely no idea what RPN was or how to use it but it didn't take long to figure out. Then I couldn't go back. Algebraic entry is for the weak!
The 33s has turned out to be a stupendously popular model because it's cheap, powerful, and has no communications features (exam approved!). It's also pretty controversial among the serious HP geeks because of the chevron-style keys. I don't mind the keys, but I think I'd prefer the standard rectangle. At least the Enter button is in the right place - above the 7 never worked for me.
As with all decent modern calculators, the features are far too many to list, so check out the HP website.
Pictures coming!
